DIA and Avedon

Today I got to see the Richard Avedon Fashion Photographs on display at the Detroit Institute of Arts and it was beyond amazing. Walking in you will find white walls, white labels, and white frames with white mats. Then you turn a corner and its the "Paris at Night" section where everything is black but the frames and mats. The black walls and labels really enhances your experience of the photographs. Singularly lit, each print gives you a glimpse into 1940s nightlife in Paris. Further into the exhibition, the visitor learns about the process of engraving a picture and how a picture turns into a magazine image. But you aren't done yet. Following the exhibition around, you begin to notice famous models: Twiggy, Angelica Houston, Kate Moss, Elizabeth Taylor, and many more. Avedon's influence stretched 6 decades and is one exhibit you don't want to miss.
